Matted Coats
Can you imagine not brushing your hair for 6 to 8 weeks or longer?. Think how that would hurt when you tried to de-tangle it. It’s the same for dogs. For the comfort of your dog I will do no more than 15 minutes of de-matting using de-matting tools in a single groom. Small matts in not so visible locations will be clipped off e.g. under front legs (armpits) and around back legs. Any small matts in visible areas that cannot be brushed out will be clipped and blended to blend any short areas where possible. In extreme matting cases I will suggest a full clip off with the clients consent (either written or verbal). This will be discussed when the dog is brought for the groom. If the client does not agree to a clip off then de matting may take place over multiple visits if it is possible, at an agreed hourly rate.
Aggressive dogs
I am very fond of my fingers and nose. If you know that your dog has aggressive tendencies, please tell me prior to me starting the groom. If your dog is aggressive or unpredictable towards me then please be aware that I will use a muzzle or other grooming aids such as a Happy Hoodie to try and complete the groom to a satisfactory standard. If however your dog becomes aggressive to the point of being dangerous to me and/or itself then I will stop the groom and call you to collect your dog. Full groom fee will be payable.
Anal glands
Pet Industry Federation guidelines state that internal Anal gland expressing should only be undertaken by a trained Veterinary Surgeon or nurse. External expression should only be undertaken by persons who are trained specifically to do this by a Veterinary surgeon for that particular dog, and under the advice of a Veterinarian. Due to these guidelines I am unable to undertake Anal gland expression of any kind, and would advise you to seek Veterinary assistance if you require this.
Ears
Pet Industry Federation guidelines state that nothing should be put into the ear canal due to the possibility of damage or underlying conditions. Therefore I can only undertake Ear plucking at your request, and if a Veterinary practitioner has recommended it. I will not undertake Ear plucking unless requested. Any visibly long hair will be trimmed as short as possible. The ears will then be cleaned using ear cleansing fluid and cotton wool to remove visible dirt. This will be done without entering the ear canal.
If there is any sign of infection, or parasites i.e. ear mites, I will be unable to undertake ear cleaning.
Teeth cleaning
Pet Industry Federation guidelines state that teeth cleaning should only be undertaken by a veterinary practitioner, with the dog under sedation/anaesthesia. Therefore I do not offer a teeth cleaning service at this time. This may be reviewed in the near future.
Nail Clipping
Please be aware that nail clipping can cause bleeding if the Quick is inadvertently nicked. While every effort is made to prevent this, on black and brown nails it is almost impossible to judge where the Quick stops. If bleeding occurs a Styptic powder will be used to stop the bleeding. Nail clipping is undertaken at the owners risk. An alternative to clipping is Nail grinding if required. Please inform me prior to the start of the groom if you know that you dog does not like its nails clipped, or becomes aggressive with nail clipping.
Vaccinations
Please make sure that your dog’s vaccinations are up to date before making an appointment for a groom.
Fleas and other parasitic nasties
Please make sure that your dog is flea treated, and does not have any fleas or other parasites that could contaminate the salon. If fleas are found, a flea treatment shampoo will be used to wash the dog. In extreme cases the groom may be stopped. There will be a £10 extra charge if fleas are found on your dog. This is to cover the cost of decontamination of the salon. Ticks will be removed using a removal tool, and stored for the client, unless they are too numerous in which case the groom will be stopped. The removed ticks may be required by a veterinary practitioner if the tick bite site becomes infected. The owner will be responsible for any veterinary treatment costs if required after the removal of ticks. Any other parasites such as Mites of any kind and worms will prevent the groom from taking place and the owner will be called to collect the dog and seek veterinary advice.
Veterinary advice
I am unable to offer any advice about medical conditions that could be present in your dog. If I see something that I think may require veterinary assistance then I will advise the owner to seek advice from their own veterinary surgeon. This will be at the owners cost and K9 Hairdooz will not be liable for any veterinary consultation or treatment costs. If urgent veterinary treatment is required during the groom due to a medical condition that the dog has, the owner will be liable and agrees to pay any costs incurred by K9 Hairdooz.
